A well-known North East-based hospitality professional has secured a prestigious appointment as sales manager in a new city hotel and restaurant. Nicky Sherman, 42, joins Jesmond Dene House in Newcastle this month in the run-up to the property’s much-anticipated opening in September.

Nicky has a successful track record in hotel operations and sales and marketing. For the last seven years she has held the position of director of sales and marketing at De Vere Slaley Hall in Northumberland; and previously she has worked in a variety of roles at the Vermont Hotel and at the Gosforth Park Hotel. Nicky said: “Jesmond Dene House will become synonymous with style and quality. It is just what the city needs, and I am very much looking forward to being involved in what will become a showcase property for the city and the region. There is a real buzz about this project already - people can’t wait to see what the property has to offer.” The hotel’s refurbishment programme is now well underway. When it opens on September 1 it will offer 40 en-suite bedrooms, including 8 suites, a large restaurant and private dining room and facilities for meetings and seminars, including the impressive Great Hall.

The £7 million restoration has retained the integrity of the original building while introducing a modern but warm style of interior design. Each room has been designed to create a sense of comfort and luxury. Jesmond Dene House director, Terry Laybourne, said: “Nicky is our first appointment, and a very important one. We are delighted to have attracted someone of her calibre into this role and very much look forward to working with her in the coming weeks and months. “Jesmond Dene House is going to be a very special experience, there is nothing like it in the city at the moment. It will very much reflect the values of a region renowned for its warmth and hospitality and we look forward to opening the doors in September.“

Nicky is married and lives in Tynemouth with her husband and two year old son.
