Hospitality professional Wiebke Roesler has landed a job at Newcastle’s most talked about hotel following extensive spells working in Germany, London and New York. Wiebke, 22, has been appointed as meetings and events coordinator at Terry Laybourne’s new Jesmond Dene House hotel, where she will be responsible for managing business and social functions at the recently restored 19th century mansion.
Jesmond Dene House is a grade II listed building dating back to 1822; it is being transformed as part of a £7 million restoration project and will open as a boutique hotel and restaurant on September 1, 2005. Weibke said: “I have always worked in small, luxury, historic hotels with a focus on attention to detail and customer service, I therefore look forward to applying that experience to my new role at Jesmond Dene. I have been in the North East now for four months and am really enjoying it. It is a great place to live and work - especially being based in Jesmond Dene - I feel so lucky to do my job in such wonderful surroundings.”
Nicky Sherman, sales manager at Jesmond Dene House, commented: “Wiebke has a strong operational background in the hotel business - and her customer service skills and track-record in luxury hotels fits very well with us here. I am sure she will prove a great asset to the team, which is developing a distinctly international flavour with new recruits from Spain, Germany and Italy.”
Wiebke was born and brought up in Germany, and trained in the hospitality industry in her hometown of Göttingen. Following this she travelled to the United States to broaden her hospitality industry experience in a small, privately owned, luxury hotel in New York. She recently travelled to the UK to work as a restaurant manager at Down Hall Country House Hotel, just outside London, before moving to the North East. Wiebke’s fiancé, Scott, is originally from Bishop Auckland and was keen to return to his native North East, the couple now live in Swalwell on Tyneside. Wiebke is the 15th recruit to join Jesmond Dene House, ready for the hotel opening next month.
