Our award-winning restaurant takes a fresh and contemporary approach to classic dishes and classic combinations. (Having said that, we still like roast beef and Yorkshire pudding for Sunday lunch, and our afternoon tea is properly old-fashioned.) Head Chef, Pierre Rigothier, blends a modern approach with his exacting French training to create dishes that are light, flavoursome and appealing. Ingredients are what count - fresh and seasonal, of course - and we use the best we can find. Perhaps scallops from Scotland, organic beef from Northumberland, pigeon from Anjou, France. Some of the herbs, fruit and vegetables come from the hotel garden.
There’s something here for everyone, from a set-you-up-for-the-day breakfast to a speedy business lunch, Sunday lunch with the family to a foodie-lovers’ tasting menu. There are seasonally changing a la carte and vegetarian menus, or why not try our great value Market Menu dinner; just £25 for three courses.
The Restaurant has two dining areas: the building’s former music room with its plasterwork and dramatic colours, and the light and leafy Garden Room with its summer terrace. Plump sofas and an inglenook fireplace make the Cocktail Bar a convivial place for drinks or coffee. Alternatively, the Billiard Room has a clubby atmosphere, another grand fire-place (but, regrettably or thankfully, no billiards) and is the perfect spot to laze over afternoon tea.
We’re open every day, breakfast through to dinner, to non-residents as well as hotel guests.
